Travel and Cultural Photography
Here we discuss all things travel and cultural photography.
I. Introduction
I remember my first vacation to Paris. I had a point-and-shoot Olympus camera but zero knowledge of how to use it. That did not stop me from taking countless photos of every painting, sculpture, avenue and building in the French capital. But needless to say, I rarely, if ever, look back at those pictures. The point of the story is the following: unless travelling and photography are your bread and butter, you probably want to make every annual trip count. This means you want to avoid coming back home with gigabytes of photos, a tiny percentage of which are decent.
So, how does one avoid the frustration and disappointment that accompanies a mediocre photography trip? The answer is thorough research and planning, and the natural place to start is the Internet. Unfortunately, most of the online content is either designed to sell you gear or targets the generic traveller, not photographers.
